Association of Postgraduate Students (APS) sponsors the UQ Library's Visualise Your Thesis competition. Here's more information:

 

Graduate researchers, showcase your research, sharpen your visual storytelling skills and compete for cash prizes by entering the 2025 Visualise Your Thesis competition!

About the competition

Visualise Your Thesis challenges entrants to create an eye-catching, 60-second audio-visual representation of their research project and its potential benefits that is accessible to a general audience. 

 

Open to graduate research students

The competition is open to currently enrolled graduate researchers (students enrolled in Master of Philosophy, Masters by Research, PhD, or Professional Doctorate programs) at any stage of their candidature who are active and attending.

 

Judging

Entries will be judged in August. The judges will be looking for:

  • visual impact and how well the content presents the research 

  • creativity, use of multi-media, interactivity and interpretation.

The UQ winner will advance to the international competition round later this year.

 

Prizes

Winners will receive prize money of:

  • 2025 UQ winner: A$1200 

  • Second place: A$700

  • Third place: A$300

  • Viewer's Choice: A$500.

 

How to enter

Express your interest now

Submit an expression of interest from 12 June until 11:59pm on 1 August 2025. We will email eligible entrants with details about how to prepare and submit your entry to the competition. 

 

Key competition dates for 2025 

  • Expressions of interest: open from 12 June 

  • Competition entries: open until 1 August 

  • Announcement of winner: 18–22 August

  • Winning entry into international competition: 2 September

About Visualise Your Thesis

The Visualise Your Thesis competition was developed by the University of Melbourne. The competition has offered local and international competition rounds since 2019 and has wide international reach.  

UQ first participated in the competition in 2022.
