I enjoy taking photographs and designing things. So I am looking forward to getting them done in a meaningful way.

BBiomedSc(Hons.) Qld.
As a first-year PhD student, I am particularly motivated to contribute to roles that strengthen the postgraduate research community and improve the overall student experience, particularly for the HDR students. I am especially interested in initiatives that support student wellbeing, create opportunities for meaningful connection among research students, and ensure HDR voices are actively represented in decision-making processes. Being at the beginning of my research journey also allows me to commit to this role over the longer term, providing continuity and sustained engagement with the HDR community.

BBiotech BVDU., GDip(AC-CRAI) SPPU.
APS has felt like a comfort to me within the larger university environment. It brings together postgraduate students in a way that feels authentic and supportive. Creating a space where we can connect, grow, and feel understood. Every event I have experienced has been so thoughtfully curated and genuinely meaningful. Whether it is a postgraduate dinner, sports event, pot painting, or even a simple coffee catch-up. These events have always provided me with a much-needed break from academic pressures and made sure to remind us to fully experience university life. I remember whenever I felt stressed about an assignment or when a submission didn’t go as planned, simply showing up at an APS event or even visiting the APS space would help me feel relaxed just by talking to people.

Having lived and studied in Hong Kong where English was not the main language, I understand the challenges of communicating in a second language. This experience motivates me to support my peers in building confidence and feeling comfortable participating in university and their everyday lives in Australia, which is why I am applying with passion for the Academic – English Conversation Officer. I also highly value creating an inclusive and supportive space where students can achieve their full potential, motivating me to apply for the Well-being Officer role as well.
PSP Officer
Ria Salaria
BBiotech Chandigarh.
I want to contribute more to the organisation and support its student community. Having volunteered for over 70 hours across more than 15 APS events, I have developed strong teamwork, event management, and communication skills. This experience has inspired me to help new postgraduate students engage with APS, access its opportunities, and feel welcomed, ensuring they make the most of everything the organisation offers.
PSP Officer

BSc(HIM) MAHE.
Volunteering with APS has genuinely been one of the best parts of my postgrad experience. Since October 2025 I’ve put in over 80 hours helping out at events like Sweet Start, GradFest, and Postgrad Buddies, and many such events and each time I’ve come away wanting to do more, not less whether that’s helping a new postgrad feel less lost on their first day or just seeing an event I helped set up actually come together smoothly.
That experience, alongside volunteering with UQ Union and being a Class Representative during my undergrad, has shown me how much a small, organised team behind the scenes shapes someone’s whole experience of uni. I’m used to stepping up, listening to what people actually need, and following through on the details that make events run well.
I’d love the chance to take on more responsibility with APS, keep contributing to the community I’ve already grown to care about, and help make that same experience even better for the postgrads who come after me.
Welfare Officer
Emmanuelle Borres
BSc Arch.
As an architect, I want to further develop my management and leadership skills beyond my professional practice. I believe this opportunity will allow me to grow personally and professionally while I continue my postgraduate journey at UQ. I have always enjoyed organizing events and activities among my peers, and I would like to take this passion further by contributing to the UQAPS community. I especially want to support international students, as I understand that adjusting to a new environment can be a significant challenge. I hope to be part of an organization that helps students feel welcomed, connected, and supported, making their experience at UQ more enjoyable and memorable.

As an international postgraduate student myself, I know how disorienting it can be starting somewhere completely new. New system, new city, new culture, and it’s easy to feel like your voice doesn’t really reach the people who can actually do something about it. I want to help change that, which is why I seek to be an officer at APS. I want international students to feel like this association is somewhere they belong, where their questions are welcomed instead of brushed off, and where they’re genuinely heard, not just politely listened to. That’s the kind of support I want to help build for everyone coming after me.
Gatton Officer
Xinjie (Skyla) Wang
BAgr HZAU.
I want to make the most of my remaining year at UQ and become more involved in campus life. Living at Gatton has made me appreciate how important it is for students to have opportunities to meet others, take part in activities and feel connected to the campus community.
I have experience in student organisations, event coordination and volunteering, and I would like to use these skills to support activities that are practical, welcoming and relevant to postgraduate students. I am also interested in hearing about other students’ experiences and helping their ideas and concerns reach APS. For me, this role would be a chance not only to contribute, but also to build stronger connections with the people and community around me.
Gatton Officer
Ririn Rahmatillah
S.Pt., M.Pt. Padjadjaran.
I want to strengthen my experience in community engagement and contribute more actively to the postgraduate community at UQ. I enjoy being part of supportive academic environments, and I would like to help create meaningful activities and initiatives that bring postgraduate students together. I previously served as the Director of the Indonesia Hub for ReachSci, where I coordinated programs and managed projects. Through this experience, I developed strong skills in coordination, project management, and teamwork, skills that I believe would be valuable in an officer role at UQAPS.
